I just feel like making a story where a character and the audience is supposed to me moved by an in-universe piece of art must be really difficult, you know?

I feel this all the time with musical anime. Oh yeah, the main character’s band did the best performance ever and totally blew the competition’s song out of the water! …except it was super basic with maybe three chords total, a singer you can hear in any opening, and in a genre that’s as generic as can be to reach the widest audience without being offensive.
